New Case of Chikungunya Reported

NICARAGUA NEWS – (Prensa Latina) Nicaragua’s government confirmed on Monday a new case of Chikungunya virus, adding up to 10 cases in the country. During an address in local television, Communications Coordinator of the Council on Communication and Citizenry of Nicaragua Rosario Murillo said the person is not a Nicaraguan citizen who has resided in the country for two years and travels frequently to countries in Central America.

On June 27th, authorities declared a health warning across the country in order o prevent the virus from entering the country and protect citizens.

The first two cases reported in Nicaragua were two Honduran nationals who entred the country on June 9th, after visiting Dominican Republic.
