Nicaragua Gvt. Approves US$10 million for Electrification

With a loan from OPEC, the second phase of the rural electrification project on the Caribbean coast will be financed.

The decree must still be approved by the National Assembly, which will receive it in the coming days. The loan was agreed between the Ortega administration and the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.

Elnuevodiario.com.ni reports that “…This rural electrification program will be executed by the National Electricity Transmission Company (Enatrel) in the period from 2018 to 2020 and will benefit some 89 rural communities in which there are 6,317 homes, according to the legislative agreement.”

“… Last year, the National Assembly approved a $33.3 million loan for the generation of electricity through solar panels in remote communities in the Caribbean and in the department of Río San Juan.”
