NICARAGUA NEWS — Authorities of Nicaragua reported Monday the detection of a new case of Chikungunya, bringing the total to 30 people affected by the virus.
The coordinator of the Communication and Citizenship Council, Rosario Murillo, said in her usual contact via local television that this case is a 49-year-old woman in good health.
According to recent reports from the Ministry of Health, the good general condition of patients could indicate that Central America faces a mild form of the virus.
Health officials announced a few days ago that research is being conducted to determine if the form registered in the area suffered any mutation.
Chikungunya, transmitted by mosquitoes Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus with dengue-like symptoms, is characterized by fever, joint pains, headaches, nausea, fatigue and rash.
