Nicaragua, Russia Strengthen Drug Trafficking Fighting Cooperation

nicaragua-rusiaTODAY NICARAGUA – The ratification of covenants for the struggle against drug trafficking and the organized crime reaffirmed today the interest of Nicaragua and Russia in strengthening bilateral cooperation, as it was stated by both countries authorities.

During his visit to this capital the Russian Minister of Defense, Serguei Shoigu noted that the agreements signed are the continuation creation of the legal framework of relations existing between the two nations and will allow increasing established links.

Shoigu arrived to Managua Wednesday, from Venezuela, and his agenda included exchanges with the Nicaraguan Army leadership and a meeting with President Daniel Ortega.

After signing teh covenants, the head of the military institution, Julio Cesar Aviles, and the Russian Defense Minister highlighted their importance to face drug trafficking and other crimes.

In addition, during last night meeting in the capital of the Euroasian country with the defense minister, Serguei Shoigu, the Nicaraguan president, Daniel Ortega criticized the attacks of US and the European Union (EU) against Russia, spread today the local media.

We condemned all sanctions unilaterally applied by United States and the European Union, because we know that this is not the way for peace, he affirmed.

United States is creating chaos on the world economy and affects the whole world, even the Europeans themselves and them, he added.

On the other hand, Ortega recognized the efforts of the government of Vladimir Putin to reach peace and stability.

Shoigu noted that the documents signed authorize the entry to Nicaragua of troops from the Russian naval Force, aimed at developing planes of struggle against that scourge and contribute to meet humanitarian activities.

We recognize the good will of President Putin to develop bilateral cooperation in fields such as scientific, cultural, economic and military. The agreements we have managed to achieve represent a big step, added Ortega.
