Nicaragua’s communications satellite Nicasat-1 will be ready by October 2016, said the CEO of the Nicaraguan Institute for Telecommunications and Posts (Telcor), Orlando Castillo, reports Prensa Latina.
He said it will be ready in the third quarter of 2016 and that the construction will take places in stages over three years.
The total cost of the satellite will be USD$254 million, which is USD$46 million lower than originally planned.
The satellite will be manufactured by China Great Wall Industry Corporation and, once in orbit, will be used to provide mobile telephony services, pay-TV, data and internet services.
