NICARAGUA NEWS – Nicaragua’s Naval Force on August 13 seized more than 500 kilograms of cocaine hidden in a fast boat anchored in a small island in the Pacific, arresting three Nicaraguans.
The suspects were detained in Castañones Island, near Puerto Corinto, captain Antonio Salvador Santos, the head of the Nicaraguan Naval District in the Pacific, told reporters.
Authorities believe the drugs were smuggled from Costa Rica and would be transported northward, through the Gulf of Fonseca in the Pacific Ocean, which Nicaragua shares with Honduras and El Salvador.
The operation is the largest seizure of drugs carried out by the Nicaraguan Naval Force so far this year, authorities said.
