The blackout that affected almost all of Nicaragua was due to an interruption in the regional interconnection, the fault being located in Honduras, said Salvador Mansell, executive president of the Empresa Nacional de Transmisión Eléctrica (Enatrel).
Electrical service to almost all of Nicaragua and parts of Honduras and El Salvador, last for almost two hours. Parts of Guatemala were also affected starting at 11:55 am.
Mansell explained that all Enatrel staff worked on the restoration of energy in all parts of the country, with priority being hospitals and health centers.
By 5:20 pm, Enatrel announced power was restored to the entirey country.
