NICARAGUA NEWS – At least 13 neighborhoods and 44 houses were flooded after last night rainfall on the Nicaraguan capital, said the general secretary of the Mayor”s Office in Managua, Fidel Moreno, in a statement released today.
According to the official, damage was mainly recorded in the eastern part of the city, where more than 50 millimeters of water fell.
Moreno said that two of the three half-destroyed houses were reported in La Primavera neighborhood, District VI, due to an overflow of a waterway that passes through that sector, and the other one in Santa Rosa town.
He explained that in the coming hours the council will support families to rebuild their homes and that authorities gave mattresses and blankets to citizens with flooded homes.
According to the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies, this Friday’s heavy rainfall was the result of low pressure and atmospheric instability, and will contine throughout the weekend.
