TODAY NICARAGUA – Dr. José Antonio Fletes Largaespada of the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court (Sala Penal de la Corte Suprema de Justicia – CSJ ) told Tu Nueva Radio the process has started to determine whether the Adrian SalmeronSilva, 24, suspected of multiple murders in Costa Rica, will be submitted to the national criminal justice or Costa Rica.
A Nicaraguan national, Silva, was escorted Monday under a strong police presence to the Supreme Court, where he will undergo the procedures of law, including the assignment of counsel.
The alleged perpetrator of the murders in Matapalo, Guanacaste, Costa Rica, was arrested by the National Police in the rural community of Las Mojarras, in San Francisco Libre, after his father called police.
Silva had lived for days in the house of his uncle, his neighbours learning of what he is suspected of his crimes in Costa Rica from the media.
Nicaragua’s Constitution does not allow extradition of its citizens, but the Criminal Code allows for Nicaraguans to be tried in the country for crimes committed abroad.
Costa Rican authorities have submitted their findings and evidence to Nicaragua’s Fiscalia (prosecutor’s office) for Silva to be tried in the country.
