Venezuelan Humanitarian Aid Reaches Nicaragua

A contingent of humanitarian aid from Venezuela arrived in Nicaragua to assist victims of the earthquake that rocked the country on Thursday and strong aftershocks. Speaking to the press, the executive secretary of the National System for Prevention, Mitigation and Attention to Disasters (SINAPRED), Guillermo González, explained that there are eight tons of perishable and non-perishable food, medicine, blankets and mats, among other items.

Along with this aid, a group of Venezuelan experts in seismology arrived in the country to contribute to the assessment of the current seismic situation in Nicaragua, according to the website El 19.

On Saturday night, the president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro announced the shipment of this humanitarian aid and reaffirmed his solidarity and effective support to the disaster in Nicaragua.

The earthquake of 6.2 degrees on the Richter scale and its aftershocks that hit Nicaragua left at least one dead, 266 injured and more than 2,000 homes damaged, officials said.
