The Spanish airline, Iberia, direct connection of the Managua-Madrid and Madrid-Guatemala-Nicaragua, which was intended to make the inaugural flight on October 1 has been canceled, said the president of the Higher Council of Private Enterprise (Cosep), José Adán Aguerri.

“We understand that there will be (connections) in this regard the opportunity that had cost so much to finally put Nicaragua on the European map, remember that the alerts that exist and especially the alert that exists of the Spanish government is so that it citizens do not come to Nicaragua, that obviously rules out the possibility of a flight from Iberia to Nicaragua,” said Aguerri.
That information according to Aguerri is “unofficial.” Until last week in some agencies were still offered in the travel packages space for the inaugural flight.
After the communications issued by different countries of the world about the risks of traveling to Nicaragua, there is no possibility of opening that route
Iberia intended to make three flights a week, which is considered a “fairly high frequency”, according to the president of the Association of Travel Agencies of Nicaragua (Avinic), Carlos Schutze, who in turn admits that due to the crisis that facing the country, the connection will hardly be possible.
“I see difficult the start of Iberia operations. I see it difficult for Iberia to open to given the situation, hopefully it could be done with less frequency (once a week) because this is a flight shared with Guatemala,” Schutze added.
Lucy Valenti, president of the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur), and the president of the Association of Tour Operators (Antur), Claudia Aguerri, agree that the alerts that have been issued by countries worldwide “about the risks of traveling to Nicaragua”, leaves them at a clear disadvantage.
“The Foreign Minister of Spain called on its citizens not to visit Nicaragua, so that affects the beginning of the flight, because of the crisis the country is experiencing,” Valenti said.
