TODAY NICARAGUA – From May 31st to June 7th, 2015 Sardina beach, on the Pacific coast, will host the World Surfing Championship.
For the third time the beaches in the municipality of Tola will be hosting the World Surfing Championships, an important income generator because athletes have a level of daily expenses “… of about $100, which is twice the average spent by tourists who come to do other things. ” It also improves the positioning of the country as a tourist destination.
Lucy Valenti, president of the Nicaraguan Surf Federation, told Elnuevodiario.com.ni that “… These world championships have placed Nicaragua as one of the top surfing destinations due to their media impact. The championships that have been held, have taken place in more than 150 countries and 250 million people have discovered Nicaragua thanks to the transfers that are made. ”
Gerald Membreño, general manager of the Popoyo tourism project, added “… We as hosts are already working to provide good logistics and now we have hired 16 workers, because these global events promote surfing tourism and generate interest in acquiring coastal properties. ”
