TODAY NICARAGUA (La Prensa) The executive secretary of the Nicaraguan Association for Human Rights (Asociación Nicaragüense Pro Derechos Humanos – ANPDH). Alvaro Leiva, reaffirms the position of the government of Daniel Ortega’s position in the breach of human rights in the case of the Cubans stranded in Costa Rica.

“That was already known by the international community and the Nicaraguan society,” said Leiva, referring to the allegations of human rights violation at the local level, adding the government’s position forcibly preventing passage of the Cubans into Nicaraguan territory.

A reader of Today Nicaragua, a Nicaraguan living in Costa Rica for more than a decade, found the presence of military personnel on the Nicaraguan side of Peñas Blancas, utterly disgusting.

To keep the Cuban migrants out of harms way, the reader told TN that at the Costa Rica side of the border, the Cubans are secluded and out of contact with normal border operations.

“With their actions, they have altered the social and legal peace; have weakened the rule of law in our country, placing our society in contradiction, which throughout history have been victims of suffering and bloodshed,” lamented the activist.

The Ortega administration has not yet officially spoken on the decision taken by the Central American Integration System (SICA), which allow the exit of Cubans from Costa Rica, at a meeting that Nicaragua did not attend

For the third consecutive day, First Lady and government spokesperson, Rosario Murillo, has not referred to the subject or responded to questions made over the Cuban migrants and SICA decision.
