TODAY NICARAGUA – Nicaraguan Civil Aeronautics Institute today joined an alert issued in this nation due to strong winds in recent days, caused by a high pressure system.
The announcement was made Tuesday by the Institute of Territorial Studies (INET) and highlights the danger of conditions for navigation, particularly in the Caribbean Sea.
Meanwhile, the Naval Force of the Army ordered the suspension of fishing activities and output of small vessels .
According to INET, recorded winds have velocities between 40 and 45 mph and are causing large waves.
On December 9, the Wayward Wind fishing boat with 50 people aboard, sank after being hit by a wave southeast of Puerto Cabezas, in the Caribbean Sea.
Some 32 people were rescued alive and taken to hospital, but one of them died due to serious condition in which he found himself.
On December 28, another boat capsized off the coast of the South Atlantic Autonomous Region and two of its four crew members were reported missing.
The authorities stressed the importance of taking the necessary measures to prevent such incidents.
