The other seven were six Costa Ricans and a Mexican.

The newspaper said that, according to an official statement, the men were illegally in Colombia and were, apparently, members of an organized criminal group dedicated to drug trafficking, which allegedly had links with Central American gangs.

Alex Eduardo Ramírez Ramos, a Colonel of the Marine Infantry of Colombia, told El Tiempo that the arrests occurred in the rural area of the municipality of López de Micay, in Cauca.

Everything seems to indicate that the meeting was to advance logistical coordination on drug trafficking routes that would be used to distribute the illegal drugs to Nicaragua and Costa Rica before sending it to the United States.
