TODAY TRAVEL – Projections are that 2016 will close with a growth of 6% compared to 2015 in terms of the number of tourists visiting the country.
In 2015 the country received 1.4 million tourists, and for 2016, the National Chamber of Tourism forecasts growth of 6%, and an increase in the income generated by the activity, which in 2015 totaled $528 million.
Lucy Valenti, president of the union, told Laprensa.com.ni that “… the year could end with a 20% increase in revenue, which could reach about $633.6 million.”
“… ‘This year we expected to grow by ten percent, but according to reports from the Central Bank and Intur, up until September we have grown 20 percent compared to the previous year (in income)’. Valenti acknowledged the need … to create a strategy to raise the average amount of spending by travelers. ‘This is an effort we have to make between the private sector and government, producing at least a billion from tourism in the coming years.”
