TODAY NICARAGUA – The business sector in Nicaragua has suggested that in addition to inflation and economic growth the level of productivity of workers should be taken into account when defining salary adjustments.
According to employers the current legislation has not been changed in 10 years, therefore the method for making adjustments to wages does not reflect the changes that have been experienced in the production structures in companies. For these reasons they propose incorporating elements such as productivity and competitiveness, in addition to inflation and economic growth in the salary adjustments being debated.
Roberto González, representing the Sandinista Workers, told Laprensa.com.ni that “… They would have to find a formula that measures productivity per sector, which would take time considering that the negotiating table has until February 28 to reach a consensus, otherwise it will be the government that sets the new pay schemes in the first half of the year. ”
