
NICARAGUA NEWS — Between January and October this year, exports of Nicaraguan shrimp to France were worth over US$18 million, up 92% compared to the same period of 2013.
According to the Center for Exports (CETREX), of the total sales generated from shrimp farming, France accounts for 10.6%. From January to November 2, 2014 sales of $18.3 million were recorded, well above the $9.5 million reported in the same period last year.
The French ambassador in Managua, Antoine Joly told Laprensa.com.ni that “… This is a golden opportunity for seafood in Nicaragua, as both farmed shrimp and lobsters are in great demand among French palates … In addition Nicaragua’s participation in the recent Sial Paris Food Fair 2014 is an opportunity to create new contacts and exchange between nations can grow. ”
“… In 2013 the (total) exports from Nicaragua to France closed at $51.8 million, up 36% over 2012, when sales were $38 million.”
