Nicaragua’s First Lady Rosario Murillo Thanks Pope for Message

(Prensa Latina) Vice President (and First Lady) Rosario Murillo on Wednesday thanked Pope Francis for the message of peace and reconciliation he sent during his traditional Christmas message.

‘We are grateful for the words of his Holiness Francisco for Nicaragua in which he calls for reconciliation and peace,’ said the Sandinista leader in her usual speech on national television.

Nicaragua lives celebrations as a family, in a spirit of peace and we want the words of the Pope to reach everyone, Murillo said.

As traditional, every year, the Supreme Pontiff speaks to thousands of parishioners gathered in Saint Peter’s Square, in the Vatican, and to the whole world with a Christmas message in which he calls for the solution of conflicts through dialogue.

This year he dedicated part of his words to Nicaragua, which experienced an attempted coup and its consequences in April and May, when 199 people were killed and more than 1,000 were injured, according to government statistics from the Daniel Ortega Government.

‘May the inhabitants of beloved Nicaragua be rediscovered before the Child Jesus, so that divisions and discord will not prevail, but that all strive to favor reconciliation and to build together the future of the country,’ Pope Francis said in his message.
