Tourists Stay Longer in Nicaragua

In the third quarter of this year tourists who arrived in Nicaragua stayed longer when compared to the same period in 2016.

From a report by the Central Bank of Nicaragua (BCN) published on November 24, 2017 the Tourism Survey Report for the third quarter of 2017 revealed that incoming tourism registered an average stay of 10.3 days, reflecting an interannual variation of 15.3% and -0.5 percent compared to the second quarter of 2017.

On the other hand, daily per capita expenditure made by these visitors was US$48.1 dollars, with spending by tourists from North and South America standing out, representing an interannual variation of -1.2% and 5.5% with respect to the previous quarter.

During this quarter, cruise ships entering the ports of San Juan del Sur and Corinto, recorded an average expenditure of US$86.3 and US$36.8 per passenger, respectively.

Outbound tourism reported an average stay of 12.8 days, 5.1% lower compared to the same quarter in the previous year. On the other hand, per capita daily expenditure of this group was US$35.5 dollars, with spending by tourists who visited South America and other regions standing out the most, representing a variation of 3.0 year-on-year and 46.1% with respect to the previous quarter.
