More than 4,500 Nicaraguan low-income students will begin receiving scholarships this week to help finance post-secondary studies, the government announced. The process to analyze 4,378 scholarships for vocational students and 171 for university students is being overseen by the National Technological Institute of the 19 de Julio Sandinista Youth, according to the state Council of Communications and Citizenship.
In reference to this, President Daniel Ortega said that the financial resources for the grants came from a special fund supported by the ALBA bloc (Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of our Americas).
The grants consist of monthly payments, based on students’ academic performance and individual situations, of $50 for university students and $20 for vocational students.
