“El merito es estar vivo” (The Credit is To Be Alive), a documentary that denounces some 600 attacks by the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) against Fidel Castro, will be showed today in Nicaragua, to honour the leader of the Cuban Revolution.
The film will be screened at the Central Bank Auditorium in Managua, at 3:00 pm (9:00 GMT), as part of the celebrations in this country to celebrate the 87th birthday of one of the main leaders of the integration process in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The program includes later a rural mass at La Merced parish, by priest Antonio Castro, political secretary of the Cuban embassy in Managua, Leopoldo Valley, said.
Fidel Castro is the embodiment of the ideal of the Cuban nation in the 20th and 21st centuries, as well as Jose Marti keeps on being since 19th century, and has the great merit of having become the revolutionary ideology projection, in definition of socialism, the official told Prensa Latina.
Today’s program is also dedicated to the birthday of Rene Gonzalez, one of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly held for 15 years in the United States, and the only one of them that managed to return to Havana after completing 13 years in prisons in that country, where his fellow countrymen continue, he said.
Similarly, they will be paying tribute to late Nicaraguan Commander Tomas Borge, one of the founders of the Sandinista National Liberation Front, who would also be celebrating his birthday today.
“This will be a day to honor historical figures, who represent much for Cubans and Nicaraguans, due to their contribution to sovereignty and security of our peoples: Fidel, Tomas, Rene, and his four brothers in U.S. prisons, Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, and Gerardo Hernandez,” Valle said.
The documentary includes images and testimonies that reflect more than 600 plans developed by U.S. agents and counterrevolution members in Miami, Florida, to kill Fidel Castro and overthrow the Cuban Revolution.
