TODAY NICARAGUA (Prensa Latina) Nicaragua today promotes a program of transformation and development of coffee growing for the sustainable increase in the production, which is expected to reach 200,000 tons this year.
According to the president of the Association of Coffee Exporters (Excan), José Ángel Buitrago, despite the damages caused by drought, heavy rain and coffee rust, industry moves and raises initiatives to raise productivity.
The national plan for transforming the coffee growing is conceived at long term and includes actions such as establishing partnerships with international organizations, the creation of laboratories for the analysis of soils and training of producers, Buitrago said.
For such purposes there is a fund of more than 2.4 billion dollars, collected between January and December 2014, he said.
This year the program fund would amount to more than six million dollars, he added.
